The history of cellphone design
The Evolution of the Cellphone started Sometime in the early 1970's, the design and features have immensely got better with time and technology taking control. The lifestyle changes and requirements of human beings have been the major contributors for the evolution and features of the Cellphone. The first Cellphone debutante was the Motorola DynaTAC, which was a heavy brick sized Analog Mobile Phone weighing more than 25 ounces. In the 1980's the Cellphone concept was made public by implementing them in movies, this gave them the much need limelight and popularity.
In 1990's with the Evolution of the Cellphone we noticed the first pocket sized Cellphone which was smaller and handy. However the only feature available with these Cellphones was Analog Voice transmission and reception. In the year 1992 Motorola released the first Digital Palm sized Cellphone. When Telecommunication technology advanced with GSM and CDMA Network emerging as potent systems for effective communication, Cellphones too evolved and first GSM technology Cellphone surfaced in mid 1994. Meanwhile gadget geeks were seen experimenting with Cellphone Designs and PDA's, PDA technology was even successfully incorporated in Cellphone in the late 1990's.
The demand for smaller and smarter looking Cellphone Designs started with affordable telecommunication rates. Clam-shell or folder Cellphone models were very popular in the late 1990's as they could be easily carried in pockets and handbags. Display Screen feature was first introduced in the Motorola Clam-shell model. One of the popular Cellphone designs inspired by the banana fruit was very handy and compact. The Cellphone features notable during this period were long battery life, fluorescent digital display screen. Messaging services and predictive text, and gaming feature were notable.
The first smartphone technology was introduced in the early 2000. The feature incorporated in smartphone was a central processing unit (CPU) which was only used in computers till that time. Intel 386 processors were among the first CPU to be incorporated in the cellphones. The weight on the smartphone was reduced immensely to make it attractive and portable. The Cellphone Designs were made popular among young and fashion loving generation by introducing customized designs, sleek looks and attractive fusion colors. Splash-proof and interchangeable case Cellphone designs were also introduced for durability.
The features like Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Internet services and wireless communication were being consciously introduced in the Smartphone. GPS was one popular application which was incorporated for its popularity and demand from the tech savvy public. Entertainment industry had visualized the impact of Cellphone designs and features, MP3 music player was introduced that gained high popularity and was a stepping stone in driving cellphone industry to the epitome of entertainment industry.
The features that gained speed over time were targeted to the internet savvy, entertainment crazy user, with inclusion of web browsers, touch screens, Memory slots, data storage, LCD screens, AMOLED screens, WiFi connections, Bluetooth technology, built in cameras, and FM radio are many of the popular features that attract consumers to buy Cellphones.
The blackberry was the pioneer in making Push mail and Email services popular among corporate. Now we are noticing how the Android based cellphones and iPhone have captured the user's attention by encouraging them to interact and expand the mobile application industry by tenfold in the coming years.
